About Us
About Us
We are primarily a horse boarding operation concentrating on stall boarding for our clients horses, although we do offer pasture board to those who prefer that alternative.

We also offer training for horses and rider lessons, host events and parties, organize trail rides, provide rental horses and tack, and offer horses for sale or lease. We are home to various breeds and have an equally varied range of activities from trail and pleasure riding to many show specialties and racing.

Our main objective is to provide a good home for the horses in our care and a place where their owners can come to work with and enjoy their horses. We strive to provide a comfortable and safe environment for the horses and insure their nutritional needs are satisfied. We are a family oriented operation and feel that we have a great group of people that have chosen our stables for the good clean fun they have here. We hope you will consider us when you are looking for a good caring home for your horse.
History: There is a lot of local history at the place where our stables are located. The site was home to native Americans originally. There is a creek defining one of the property boundaries. We have had university sponsored expeditions in search of native American artifacts along the creek and surrounding areas. We have found arrow heads and stone tool artifacts while searching along the creek banks. About 130 years ago the farm house at the front of the property and the old barn pictured above were constructed. Those first farmers here had a water driven grain mill at the creek that was used to grind and crush grain brought here by local farmers. A portion of the grain meal was bartered for this service. The tenants also made maple syrup from the maple trees that are still found on the property and along the creek. The old timers that are still around have many stories about this place. It is unknown whether the centuries old oak tree at the front of the property, near where the main horse and wagon road used to be, was actually a hanging tree, or the old timers are having some fun with us.
Present

Today the site is the home for Jackson Stables, the Jackson family and many horses, some dogs, a few goats, and a variety of ducks, chickens, and geese. There are 40+ acres, about half in pastures and half in forest. We have a variety of resources that are part of Jackson Stables. The main barn where the horses reside is a dual isle 16 stall barn that was constructed in 1992.
The stalls are 12' x 12' with top/bottom split doors, individual fans, lights, hay racks, feed bins and dual water buckets. Bedding for the stalls are obtained through an agreement with a local wood products manufacturer. The bedding is a unique soft wood shavings that has a fluff to it making for a very soft and comfortable bedding that has superior absorbency.
The old barn has been expanded and is now storage for feed, hay, bedding, tools and equipment. Our hay is primarily bermuda with only trace amounts of other types. It is grown locally and we keep at least 2 round bales in pasture during cool months for continuous foraging replacement as well as supply the barn requirements. There is a 70' diameter wooden roundpen with sand footing, a large arena for a variety of uses including regulation size barrel racing, jumps and obstacles. We try to keep the arena prepared soft but for traction on the inner portion and hard pack on the outer ring for gaited and racking  work. There are 22 acres of wooded trails for pleasure riding and thousands of acres of mountain trails for the challenging rides. There are 5 pastures or grazing areas and a stocked pond for fishing.
Future

We are continuously improving our facility and our operation. The day to day operation is kept running smooth by Christy, Andrea, Joanna and Debra. Mike and Kelly do the maintenance and new construction.  2009 saw the completion of the old barn reconfiguration, purchase of dirt moving equipment for land maintenance and improvement projects, 90% completion of a new tack room in the general use building which includes the completion of shower and lockers bathroom facilities.

So far in 2010 we have 75% completion of a new roof for the general use building and 90% completion of a 35' horse trailer with live in facilities for the long duration horse shows.
And we have begun installation of an in door warm water horse wash room which can double as a farrier work area and general use tie off.

We are renovating a 1000 sq.ft. building to house a large tack room with a full bathroom including shower and lockers. There will also be areas for cleaning tack, washer and dryer, kitchenette and office, as well as a two bedroom apartment.

Further down the road will see the expansion of the main barn primarily for foaling stalls and a renovation of existing stalls with upper wall bars for the front walls to give the stalls more light and ventilation, new fencing and paddocks around the barns and tack building. We are also going to prepare smaller 1 acre pastures/paddocks within the rear forest between and connecting to the trails. These will be used for horse/camping areas as well as isolating animals when needed and providing expanded foraging areas for our horses.
